How to Open a Profitable Pilates Studio in Australia (2026)
Equipping a small Australian Pilates studio with commercial-grade reformers costs roughly $24,000 to $32,000 (ex GST) for the machines — the biggest line item in any fit-out. The Core Collab has manufactured reformers and built Pilates studios for 25 years, including one of Australia's largest and most profitable reformer studio chains. This guide uses our current 2026 Australian pricing so you can plan a profitable studio, not guess.
Prices below are ex GST — add 10% GST to budget the final figure. Verify each product page before ordering, as prices move with our sales.
How much does it cost to open a Pilates studio in Australia?
Equipment is your largest controllable cost. A boutique reformer studio runs on 6 to 10 machines. Rent, fit-out, and council approvals vary by city, but the equipment number is knowable today.
| Studio size | Reformers | Machine cost (ex GST) |
|---|---|---|
| Micro / private (1:1) | 2 × Queen Studio | $7,998 |
| Small group | 6 × Queen Studio | $23,994 |
| Standard boutique | 8 × Queen Studio | $31,992 |
| Lagree-style studio | 8 × Sculptformer | $67,992 |
How many reformers, and how much floor space?
Plan for real square metres per machine. A reformer needs clear space for the carriage, straps, and safe transitions. Our own install math: about 78 square metres fits 8 reformers comfortably, or roughly 10 sq m per machine including circulation.
| Floor area | Reformers (comfortable) | Class model |
|---|---|---|
| ~40 sq m | 4 | Small group / private |
| ~60 sq m | 6 | Boutique group |
| ~78 sq m | 8 | Full boutique class |
| ~117 sq m | 12 | Large group studio |
Commercial-grade vs home reformers — what a studio needs
A studio reformer runs 40-plus hours a week for years. Home-only machines are not built for that duty cycle. The build details that matter are the frame, the spring system, and the bearings.
The Core Collab's studio reformers use a 6-spring system, an 8-wheel carriage, and ABEC-7 bearings, with a 10-year warranty — the cleanest signal a manufacturer trusts its own build.
| Spec | What studios need | The Core Collab studio range |
|---|---|---|
| Frame | Commercial-grade, stable under daily load | Aluminium (Queen) / solid oak (Eco) / steel (Sculptformer) |
| Springs | 6+ for fine resistance control | 6-spring; 8-spring (Sculptformer) |
| Bearings | ABEC-7 for quiet, smooth glide | ABEC-7, 8-wheel carriage |
| Warranty | 5+ years; 10 is premium | 10 years |

Reformer studio, Lagree studio, or both?
Your class format decides your machine. Classical and contemporary reformer classes run on a standard reformer. Megaformer-style HIIT classes run on a Lagree-type carriage. The Sculptformer is our steel-frame, 8-spring machine for Lagree-style programming — two more springs than the Xformer's 6, with no ongoing brand licence. Compare total cost of ownership, not the sticker.
Delivery and lead times for Australian studios
Build lead time into your opening date. Custom studio orders are typically an 8-to-12-week build. Do not lock a class timetable or take founding-member payments until your reformers have a confirmed ship date. We deliver Australia-wide from our Gold Coast warehouse.
Red flags when choosing a studio supplier
- Warranties under one year on springs, upholstery, or bearings.
- No clear country of final assembly.
- "Premium springs" with no stated count or material.
- Hidden or contact-only pricing on a bulk order.
For context, one Australian competitor warranties upholstery for just 4 months — against The Core Collab's 10-year cover. On a machine running 40 hours a week, that gap matters.
The bottom line for new studio owners
Budget $24,000 to $32,000 (ex GST) for a 6-to-8 reformer boutique studio, plan about 10 sq m per machine, and choose commercial-grade builds with a 10-year warranty. Browse our commercial Pilates reformers, or talk to our team — we have opened studios ourselves and are happy to help you build a profitable one.
