The Core Collab's Pilates grip socks lock your feet to the carriage. Silicone grips on the sole. No toe holes to squeeze through. Six colours, $20 a pair.

Do you need grip socks for reformer Pilates?

In most Australian studios, yes. Grip socks are now standard, and many studios will not let you on a reformer without them.

There are two reasons. The first is safety. The second is hygiene on shared equipment.

Why grip socks matter on a reformer

A reformer carriage moves underneath you. That is the whole point of the machine.

Bare feet slip on the footbar, especially once you warm up. Ordinary socks are worse — they turn the carriage into a slide.

Silicone grips stop that movement. The payoff is not just safety. You push harder through the footbar. You hold a lunge longer. Your form stays honest when you are tired.

Footwork is roughly the first ten minutes of most reformer classes. That is the part where slipping costs you the most.

Grip socks vs bare feet vs regular socks

Grip socks Bare feet Regular socks
Grip on the footbar Strong Moderate, drops as you sweat Poor
Grip on the carriage Strong Moderate Very poor
Hygiene on shared gear Good Poor Good
Accepted by most AU studios Yes Sometimes Rarely
Warmth in winter classes Yes No Yes

What to look for in a pair

Feature Why it matters The Core Collab socks
Sole coverage Partial grip patches let the heel slide Full silicone sole coverage
Toe style Toe holes are slow to put on and split over time Closed toe, no holes
Cut Ankle socks roll down mid-class Mid-tube, sits above the ankle
Knit Loose knit slides inside the sock Holds shape without pinching

What size are they?

One size. Fits EU 34–40.

The knit stretches, so there is reasonable range either side.

What colours are available?

Six: black, grey, white, purple, blue and pink.

How do you wash grip socks?

Machine wash cold. Air dry flat.

Do not tumble dry. Heat is what kills silicone grip. A tumble-dried pair loses its grip in weeks rather than months.

Turn them inside out if you want the grip to last longer.

How often should you replace them?

Most regular practitioners get six to twelve months from a pair.

Replace them when the silicone starts to crack or the grip goes shiny. Shiny grip is worn grip.

If you train three or more times a week, two pairs in rotation last far longer than one pair washed constantly.

Can men wear these?

Yes, within the EU 34–40 range. The cut is unisex.

New to reformer Pilates?

The Core Collab makes studio-grade Pilates reformers. We supply both studios and home users across Australia.

Most people meet a reformer in a class, then start wondering about one at home. If that is you, our range of Pilates reformers is the place to start. Payment plans are available on every model.

Thinking about teaching Pilates?

Grip socks are usually somebody's first Pilates purchase. Certification is often the question that follows.

The Core Collab runs its own instructor training. Start with our guide to Pilates certification in Australia, which covers recognition, insurance and what studios actually ask for. Or go straight to the Pilates Matwork Certification.

I received a quote from another company and including shipping I was up for a lot of money. I didn’t think I’d be able to get the same quality for a cheaper price but I was lucky that a friend put me onto The Core Collab so I could go direct to the manufacturer who creates these reformers! I saved over $1,000 and got a better reformer than I was originally quoted from another company. Warning please don’t go to resellers.

I’ve been teaching Reformer Pilates for 2 years now and I was unhappy with my reformer purchase from another popular seller I had made 6 months ago. It looked amazing but felt nothing like a studio reformer. When I spoke to The Core Collab I realised I hadn’t looked into the customised features Core Collab has inbuilt into their reformers which gave me a completely different workout. I can see why they manufacturer for the big brands.

I had no idea this company had been designing and manufacturing reformers for over 20 years. I think it is because they create reformers for a lot of the big brand resellers here in Australia. I’m so lucky I found them as I was able to not only get advice straight from the manufacturer, but was able to cut out the middle-man and save money!

When I was looking for reformers for my new studio I went straight to The Core Collab. Not only was a client at their studios for decades, but I also did their teacher training. When I was ready to create my own studio they helped me with the design, production and placement of all of my reformers. Without their guidance I don’t think my studio would be as successful as it is today!

The best service ever! Jenni is an expert in not only Pilates workouts but also in reformers. I actually couldn’t believe how much she knew. It really gave me the confidence I needed in my purchase.
